Ssshhhhh - let me think!

Wow has it really been that long since I last tried this blogging thing? Oh well that's in the past and 2014 has to be about looking forward.

For that reason I decided to join in with the Bead Journal Project on Facebook this year(https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/177095035820297/).  The project was conceived by Robin Atkins and the idea is to produce 1 piece of bead embroidery each month that expresses how you are feeling or just what's going on in your life at that time.

My January BJP piece is called 'Ssshhhhh - let me think!'.
In November 2013 I experienced one of the top 5 stresses in life - I lost my job.  I was made redundant from my job of 10 years.  It hurt and I am still recovering both emotionally and psychologically from this life event.

What hurts most however is what I am doing to myself.  My inner voice of self-doubt and self-criticism just keeps getting louder and louder.  Now she was always there - my little voice - but now she has pom-poms and is doing a constant cheerleader thing through me.  She is my constant companion.  She invades what little sleep I get.  She is relentless.

I don't want to silence her completely, but I need to work towards lowering her volume and 'Ssshhhhh - let me think!' is my first step towards that.  I am hopeful that she will let me follow new paths this year, be they beading, career or life choices.  I am hopeful that she will let me shine again.

I have also made her heart shaped as a reminder to love myself - something that I am not good at just yet.
Well that's my January out of the way. I hope you have enjoyed seeing her and please visit the Facebook page to see the journeys of others.

Thank you for reading.

  1. What a hard thing to have to go through. I love how you've made such a large step with this, looking forward to blogging, and to recovering from your loss, and to step into new paths and go forward. I absolutely love the way you've used your ribbon in this, it's utterly perfect. I see lots of hope and faith in your box, and even though the 'path' looks meandering, I think it shows a lot of purpose in the end, especially in that it goes right off of the work and off into the next step... Gorgeous, glorious, stunning work, and your theme is amazing, too. I need to shush my own inner voices sometimes...

    1. Thank you so much Nancy. Our inner voice is a necessary part of us but sometimes she just needs to give it a break!

  2. This is utterly beautiful. You should be very proud of how you have used such a horrible situation into such a beautiful work of art. That nasty little voice should slink away ashamed of itself x

  3. This is a beautiful piece of work in response to such a stressful situation! You have stitched this so well that your little voice should be quietened. Hope this helps give you the confidence and strength to follow whatever path you decide upon!

  7. This IS utterly beautiful, as someone above said. But more than that, I hear your gentle message to "the voice," respectfully asking that she "shhhhh" for a while. You made a beautiful container for "the voice," one that honors her place in your life, one that she might want to enter, allowing herself to be closed inside, where for a while you will not hear her message, where for a while, you can think about your future in a more positive way. More than making a beautiful piece of art this January, you have taken a very positive step forward in your life. Bravo!
